Postseason journeys continue for 4 county diamond squads
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

Postseason journeys for four Okmulgee County diamond squads continued on Thursday afternoon.

Varsity fastpitch softball teams from Dewar, Preston, and Wilson, as well as the varsity fall baseball team from Preston, were in playoff action this weekend in an attempt to earn berths at next week’s state softball and fall baseball tournaments in the Oklahoma City area.

The Preston Pirate fall baseball team traveled to Wister on Thursday to compete with three other teams, including the host Wister Wildcats, in one of eight Class A regional baseball tournaments. The other two teams at the Wister Regional were the Canute Trojans and the Amber- Pocasset Panthers.

The Pirates, ranked 7th in Class A, were scheduled to open regional tournament play Thursday at 4 p.m. against 10th-ranked Amber-Pocasset. An opening-round win on Thursday would have put the Preston squad into the regional title game Thursday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the other opening-round game Thursday between the second-ranked host Wister Wildcats and the unranked Canute Trojans.

A loss to Amber-Pocasset would have dropped the Pirates into an elimination game Friday at 2 p.m. against the loser of Wister and Canute.

The Dewar varsity fastpitch softball team served as host for one of the eight Class A regional tournaments.

The Lady Dragons, ranked 7th in Class A, will be joined at the Dewar Regional by the 11-ranked Rattan Lady Rams, 20th-ranked Hominy Lady Bucks, and unranked Verden Lady Tigers.

The Dewar squad began its regional tournament action Thursday at 12 p.m. in an opening- round battle with Verden. Thursday’s other opening-round contest pitted Rattan against Hominy at 2 p.m.

The losers of the two first-round contests were scheduled to face off in an elimination game Thursday at 4 p.m., while the two firstround winners were scheduled to square off Thursday at 6 p.m. for a spot in the regional championship game.

The Wilson varsity fastpitch softball team traveled to Stuart on Thursday to compete with three other teams, including the host Stuart Lady Hornets, in one of eight Class B regional tournaments. The other two teams at the Stuart Regional are the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs and the Oilton Lady Panthers.

The Lady Tigers, unranked in Class B, were scheduled to begin their regional tournament action Thursday at 2 p.m. against 11th-ranked Whitesboro. A win Thursday over Whitesboro would have put the Wilson diamond squad into Thursday’s winner’s bracket finals at 6 p.m. against the winner of Thursday’s other opening-round game between host (and 5thranked) Stuart and unranked Oilton, which was scheduled to take place at 12 p.m. An opening-round loss to Whitesboro would have dropped the Lady Tigers into Thursday’s 4 p.m. loser’s bracket semifinals against the Stuart-Oilton loser.

The Preston varsity fastpitch softball team was scheduled to serve as host for one of the eight super regional tournaments.

The Lady Pirates were scheduled to battle the Wister Lady Wildcats in a Best-of-3 series at the Preston Super Regional, where the winner of the tournament earns a spot in next week’s Class 2A state fastpitch softball tournament in Oklahoma City.

The first game in the Best-of-3 series with Wister was scheduled for Thursday at 12 p.m. with games scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. The ‘If Necessary’ game is scheduled to take place Friday at 12 p.m.
