The Henryetta Golden Knight varsity football team began district play this past Friday night at home against the unbeaten Prague Red Devils.
The Knights were unable to contain the high-powered Prague offense, being shutout by a 35-0 margin in the District 2A-5 opener at historic Cameron Field in Henryetta.
The Henryetta gridiron squad will look to even its district record at 1-1 this Thursday night with a trip to Tahlequah for a showdown with the Tahlequah Sequoyah Indians, who began district play last Friday with a 50-8 victory over the Okemah Panthers.
Thursday’s district contest at Tahlequah Sequoyah High School is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time.
In Friday’s district opener against Prague, the visitors opened the scoring at the 6:46 mark of the first quarter on an 8-yard run by Ronan Martin. Robbie Schiltz successfully toed the first of five PAT kicks in the contest following the TD run to give Prague the early 7-0 advantage.
A 27-yard interception return by Cody Knapp and successful PAT kick by Schiltz with 1:20 left in the opening frame doubled the Red Devil lead to 14-0 after the first 12 minutes of action.
The visitors increased their lead to 21-0 in the second stanza on a 59-yard TD run by Alden Auld at the 2:17 mark. Schiltz made good on his thirdstraight PAT kick for the 21-point deficit for the host Knights.

McClendon’s first score of 20 yards came at the 7:17 mark of the third quarter, while the Red Devil running back’s 11-yard scamper occurred with 1:33 left in regulation.
