Demons begin district play with 38-16 win over Westville
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

The Beggs Golden Demon varsity football team began their journey towards a 16th-straight playoff appearance this past Friday night at Westville High School and the District 2A-7 opener with the Westville Yellowjackets.

The Demons started their district schedule on a winning note last Friday with a convincing 38-16 victory over the host Yellowjackets.

The Demons will return to district action this Friday when they conclude their current 3-game road trip with a showdown with the Victory Christian Conquerors, who began district play last Friday with a 60-13 win over Beggs’ county mates, the Okmulgee Bulldogs.

Kickoff for Friday’s district battle with Victory Christian is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Victory Christian School in Tulsa.

In last Friday’s district opener at Westville, the host Yellowjackets opened the scoring with an 11-yard TD run by Mason Cox in the first quarter. Cox then crossed the goal line on the conversion try for an early 8-0 advantage.

The Demons got onto the scoreboard later in the frame on a 1-yard plunge by QB Billy Ramsey. The try for two was unsuccessful to put the Beggs squad in a 2-point deficit, 8-6, at the end of the first 12 minutes of action.

The Demons took the lead for good in the second quarter on an 88-yard pass from Ramsey to senior tailback Red Martel. The try for two was no good, giving Beggs a narrow 12-8 lead at the halftime break.

Martel and Ramsey hooked up on a 9-yard pass play to begin the third-quarter scoring for the visitors, then Ramsey found junior wideout Ryan Grayson in the end zone for the conversion to push the Beggs margin to double digits, 20-8.

Westville made it a 20-16 contest later in the third stanza on a 2-yard TD run and successful conversion run by Chanse Clinton.

The Demons ended the third-quarter scoring with Ramsey connecting with Grayson for a 60-yard TD strike, sending the contest to the final frame with Beggs in front by 10 points, 2616.

Grayson and Ramsey began the Demons’ scoring in the final quarter with Ramsey completing a pass to Grayson for 86 yards to extend the Beggs lead to 32-16.

Martel put the finishing touches on the 22-point Beggs victory with a 57yard scamper later in the quarter.
