The youth football teams at Dewar and Wilson are currently competing in the 2023 regular season of the Oklahoma 8-Man Youth Football League.

Dewar, Wilson facing tough challenges in 8-man youth football league

The youth football teams at Dewar and Wilson are currently competing in the 2023 regular season of the Oklahoma 8-Man Youth Football League.

The 12-team league features three divisions: Flag, 3/4 Grade, and 5/6 Grade. The youth football teams from Dewar and Wilson compete in the South Divison, along with Weleetka, Wetumka, Luther, and Wellston, while the North Divison is comprised of Depew, Oilton, Jennings, Drumright, Davenport, and Yale.

Dewar was originally scheduled to begin its 2023 season August 26 at home against Jennings, but the season opener was pushed back to this past Tuesday. The Lil Dragon squads officially began 2023 September 9 at Luther and a showdown with the Luther Lions. The Dewar youth gridiron squad has also competed at Wellston (September 16) this season.

The Dewar flag football team is currently 1-2 on the year with the lone win coming Tuesday against Jennings by a 38-28 decision. The Dragon 3/4 grade team is also 1-2 on the season, picking up its first win of 2023 on Tuesday - a 20-6 victory over Jennings. The Dewar 5/6 grade team is currently undefeated at 3-0 with wins over Luther (24-8), Wellston (36-0), and Jennings (46-6), respectively.

The Wilson flag football squad is currently 1-2 on the season with the lone win coming in the season opener on August 26 - a 20-13 victory over Oilton. The Tiger 3/4 grade team is currently 0-3 on the year, suffering setbacks to Oilton (27-0), Wetumka (44-12), and Luther (42-12), respectively, while the Wilson 5/6 grade squad is 2-1 on the season with the two wins coming in the first two games - August 26 at home against Oilton (13-6) and September 9 at Wetumka (36-0), respectively.

The county youth football teams will be in action this Saturday with Dewar hosting Wetumka and Wilson traveling to Weleetka.
