The Morris Eagle varsity football team scored at least once in every quarter last Friday night in Haskell to earn a decisive 58-7 win over the host Haskell Haymakers.

The lopsided win came in the non-district finale for the Eagles and sends the Morris squad into this Friday’s Class 2A-7 district opener at home against Kiefer with a 2-1 season record.

Kickoff for Friday’s district opener against the Kiefer Trojans is set for 7 p.m. at Larry Bookout Field in Morris.

In last Friday’s road win at Haskell, the senior duo of Trey Daniels and Koen Burgess accounted for seven of the eight Morris touchdowns.

Daniels began the Morris scoring with a 10-yard TD run in the opening frame. Daniels then hauled in the conversion pass from Burgess to give the Eagles the early 8-0 advantage.

Burgess then used his legs to score on TD runs of 18 and 8 yards, respectively, to build a 20-0 Morris lead at the end of the first 12 minutes of action.

Daniels made it a 28-0 advantage for the visitors with a 14-yard TD run and successful conversion run to begin the second-quarter scoring, while Burgess scored from one yard out on the next Morris touchdown, then found Gage Adkins in the end zone for the conversion attempt to send the non-district finale into halftime with the visiting Eagles in complete control, 36-0.

A 42-yard aerial strike from Burgess to Daniels and a 4-yard run by Burgess pushed the Morris lead to 48-0, while Burgess completed the conversion pass following his QB keeping score which gave the Eagles a 50-0 advantage.

Haskell’s lone score of the contest came on a 70-yard pass from Dylan Ozinga to Lucas King in the third quarter. The Haymakers toed the PAT kick to make it a 50-7 lead for the visitors from Morris after three quarters of action.

The final Morris tally came in the final frame on a 30-yard TD run by Bobby Baker. Daniels ran in the conversion attempt to put the finishing touches on the Ea- gles’ decisive 58-7 victory.
