Dr. Warden selected as HEDA trustee

Pending City Council approval

NEWS EDITOR

Following a short executive session Monday morning, Dr. James Warden was selected to be a trustee of the Henryetta Economic Development Authority (HEDA).

Several resumes from community members were submitted as the board sought to fill a vacancy. They chose Warden, and his name will be submitted to the Henryetta City Council, awaiting their approval.

Warden spoke briefly to the board about why he wanted to serve.

He graduated from Henryetta High School, attended college and served in the military, before opening his dental practice in his hometown.

Dr. Warden served on the board of the Henryetta Education Foundation, along with being a member of the Henryetta Rotary Club and a board member at American Exchange Bank.

He also worked as a referee with the National Football League.

Now retired, Dr. Warden splits time between his home in Henryetta and visiting family in North Carolina.

After seeing the growth in the Carolinas, Dr. Warden plans to bring suggestions and connections to aid in Henryetta’s economic growth.

“It’s been amazing to see the growth there and I think it’d be great if we could bring that type of activity to Henryetta,” Warden said.

Another citizens and local businessman, Kanon Bailey, also spoke briefly as he had submitted his name and resume for consideration.

Other items discussed during the meeting were:

• Approval of minutes and financials for August, and a correction for July.

The Henryetta City Council will meet next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for its regular session.

A special meeting was held last night at 6 p.m. On the agenda was to “Discuss/Act on entering into Executive Session under 25 O.S. Section 307(B) (1) to discuss the employment, hiring, appointment, promotion, demotion, discipling or resignation of any individual salaried public officer or employee.”

Upon return to open session, the council was set to discuss/act on any action taken on matters discussed in executive session.

The search for a new city manager is currently underway by council.
