Dewar shuts out Snyder in non-district contest
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

Dewar extends regular season win streak following 60-0 road victory

The regular-season winning streak for the Dewar Dragon varsity football team reached 46 games this past Friday night at Snyder High School.

The Dragons’ latest regular- season win came in a 60-0 mercy rule victory over the host Snyder Cyclones in the second non-district contest for Dewar in the 2023 campaign.

The Dewar gridiron squad will look to extend its win streak this Friday against the Depew Hornets at historic Dr. Ted Lewis Stadium in Dewar.

Friday’s non-district battle with Depew is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Dewar will celebrate Homecoming prior to the contest with pregame festivities scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

In this past Friday’s road trip to Snyder, the Dragons needed just 31 seconds to open the scoring, as Nevin Corbin raced 13 yards to paydirt. The senior tailback then crossed the goal line on the conversion attempt to give the visitors the early 8-0 advantage.

The next Dewar score came from the special teams unit, as Christian Cargola returned a short Snyder punt 12 yards into the end zone. Keelan Berry ran in the conversion attempt to double the Dragon lead to 16-0 with 9:04 remaining in the opening frame.

Peyton Kilhoffer’s 4-yard scamper at 5:05 in the first made it a 22-0 Dewar lead, while TD runs of 13 and 31 yards by Nevin Corbin and a successful conversion run by Cash Faulkner after the first score ended the Dragons’ first-quarter scoring and awarding the visitors the commanding 36-0 lead after 12 minutes of action.

A 5-yard run by Ben Atiogue and Kilhoffer conversion run at the 10:40 mark of the second quarter pushed the Dewar lead to 44-0, while Kilhoffer’s 37yard pass to Berry and Cargola conversion run six minutes later extended the margin to 52-0.

The final Dewar tally of the contest came on a 3-yard run by Faulkner and successful conversion run by Remy Martin with 50 seconds remaining in the first half, extending the Dragons’ regular-season win streak to 46 games with the 60-0 shutout victory.
