The Beggs Lady Demon fastpitch softball team earned a split decision in Tuesday’s home doubleheader battle with the Agra Lady Bearcats.

The Lady Demons dropped the opening contest on Tuesday by a narrow 7-6 decision, then avoided the doubleheader sweep in the nightcap with a 10-2 victory over the Lady Bearcats. The run-rule win over Agra on Tuesday snapped a 10-game losing streak and improved the Lady Demons’ season record at 7-19.

The Beggs diamond squad returned to action Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Mounds Softball Tournament and a firstround meeting with arch rival Preston.

After the Mounds Tournament, the Lady Demons will travel to Tulsa on Monday for a showdown with the Tulsa Rogers Lady Ropers and will host Lincoln Christian in a district doubleheader on Tuesday and Kellyville next Thursday in a district contest.

In Tuesday’s opening contest against Agra, the Lady Bearcats opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first, then added a run in the top of the second for a 3-0 advantage after one and one-half innings of action.

The Lady Demons broke up the shutout bid in the bottom of the second, tallying a run in the frame for a 3-1 contest.

After a scoreless third, Agra took the fourth inning by a 2-1 margin to make it a 5-2 advantage for the visitors.

Agra pushed its lead to three, 7-2, with two runs in the top of the fifth.

The host Lady Demons attempted to overcome the 5-run deficit in their final at-bat in the bottom of the fifth, but was only able to produce four runs in the frame to wind up on the short end of a 7-6 outcome.

The Beggs offense was led by the duo of Angel Aylor (2 for 3, single, home run, 3 RBIs) and Kaylynn Hamilton (2 for 3, single, double, RBI) with two hits apiece. Aylor’s home run came on a 3-run blast in the 4-run fifth.

The only other base hit for the Lady Demons in the opening contest came on a single by Alexis Tecumseh.

Other Beggs baserunners in the narrow loss were Hamilton (error), Emma Trimble (walk, hit by pitch), Erin Taylor (2 hit by pitches), and Cali Carter (error).

Carter was saddled with the pitching loss for Beggs, allowing seven runs on 10 hits with four walks, three strikeouts, and two hit batters in five innings of work.
