Okmulgee County Fair opens tomorrow

The 2023 Okmulgee County Free Fair officially kicks off tomorrow at the Okmulgee County Fairgrounds. The event continues through Saturday.

During the fair, visitors will be able to see many displays, arts, crafts, quilts, plants, food and animals.

The Family Fun Festival is also on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Judging is already underway for several exhibits, including the cattle grading and plant show.

The fair opens at 10 a.m. Thursday and then Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m.

Participants including lots of county 4-H and FFA members, along with OHCE groups, have worked very hard to make sure this year’s event is even bigger.

The Jerry Shoemake Award, which is a $1,000 cash prize, will be given to the top exhibitor from 4-H or FFA.

Schedule of Events Wednesday – September 6

8-9 a.m. Enter all exhibits including plants for Plant Show. No entries will be accepted after 9 a.m. (except livestock, horses, bucket calves, poultry & rabbits) 10 a.m. Cattle Grading @ Checotah Livestock Market 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Judging for exhibits in Exhibit Hall (entered Tuesday & Wednesday Morning) Thursday – September 7

8 a.m. All chickens and rabbits must be in place 10 a.m. Fair officially opens 10 a.m. Chicken Show (Rabbit Show starts 30 minutes after Sheep Show) 12 p.m. 4-H Food Judging begins 1 p.m. All sheep & goats must be in barn 3 p.m. Sheep Show (Goat Show starts 30 minutes after Sheep Show) 4 p.m. Swine must be in barn 5:30 p.m. Tractor Driving Contest (Ages 14-19) 6 p.m. Gilt & Barrow Show Friday – September 8 8 a.m. Heifer checkin. All Heifers must be in place 9 a.m. Exhibit Hall opens 11 a.m. Heifer Show 2-6 p.m. Performance Steers must be in place 4 p.m. 4-H Salad Making Contest 4:30 p.m. 4-H Food Judging Contest Ends 5 p.m. 4-H Table Setting Contest Saturday – September 9 8 a.m. Performance Steers must be in barns for check-in 9 a.m. Exhibit Hall opens 9 a.m. Entries for Ugly/Unique Vegetable 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Family Fun Festival Free family activities for all ages 10 a.m. Judging for Ugly/Unique Vegetable 11 a.m. Performance Steer Show (Dairy, Beef & Junior Cow/Calf Show starts 30 minutes after the Performance Steer Show; Bucket Calf Contest starts immediately after Dairy Show) 5 p.m. Horse Show Concessions open daily in the Commissioner’s Building
