Lady Eagles drop road meeting
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

The Morris Lady Eagle varsity fastpitch softball team dropped a 6-2 decision to the Vian Lady Wolverines last Thursday in Vian.

The setback puts the Lady Eagles at 12-6 on the year, heading into Tuesday’s District 3A-7 showdown with the Prague Lady Red Devils in Prague. The Morris squad will close out this week’s scheduled action Thursday at the Morris Softball Festival, battling Hilldale’s JV at 9 a.m., Commerce at 5:45 p.m., and Stilwell at 7 p.m., respectively.

In last Thursday’s road loss to Vian, the Lady Eagles’ two runs came in the top of the seventh to make it a 6-2 contest.

Vian opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, then added two in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth for its 6-run total.

Dezmond Lewis was the top hitter for the Morris diamond squad last Thursday, finishing 2 for 3 with a single and triple.

The other Lady Eagle base hits against Vian came on singles by Kaydence Ausbrooks and Briley Cagle, double by Alli Guynes, and RBI single by Ashlyn Clevenger.

Other Morris baserunners last Thursday were Ausbrooks (hit by pitch, error), Fire Clark (error), and Camara Casey (dropped third strike).

Emma Duclos was saddled with the pitching loss for the Lady Eagles, allowing six runs on eight hits with four walks, four strikeouts, and three hit batters in six innings of work.
