Knights fall at home to Victory Christian
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

Henryetta unable to contain Conquerors’ Ayden Hamilton in 58-13 setback

The Henryetta Golden Knight defense had no answer for Victory Christian quarterback Ayden Hamilton last Friday night at historic Cameron Field in Henryetta.

Hamilton accounted for five of the visiting Conquerors’ seven offensive scores and all five successful conversion attempts, handing the host Knights their first loss of the 2023 season, 58-13.

Henryetta will look to get back into the win column this Friday night in its final non-district contest between the Knights and their arch rivals, the Morris Eagles, in the 2nd Annual Walker Cup in Morris.

Friday’s county showdown in Morris is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. at Larry Bookout Field.

In Friday’s meeting with Victory Christian, the visitors opened the scoring at the 6:43 mark of the opening frame on a 32-yard TD pass from Hamilton to Ward Johnson. The conversion attempt was no good, giving Victory Christian the early 6-0 advantage.

On the Knights’ first offensive play of the contest, senior tailback Nick Hudson rocketed 73 yards into the end zone for the game-tying score. Hunter Gobin tacked on the PAT kick to give Henryetta a 7-6 lead with 6:23 remaining in the opening quarter.

The visitors regained the lead, 14-7, with 56 seconds left in the first stanza on a 5-yard run by Dallas Dyer and successful conversion pass from Hamilton to Michael Doctor.

A 6-yard run and successful conversion pass from Hamilton to Johnson at the 10:11 mark of the second quarter increased Victory Christian’s lead to 22-7, then Hamilton connected on TD passes of 15 and 29 yards, respectively, and completed a pass attempt on the second aerial score to extend Victory Christian’s lead to 36-7. Hamilton’s first score of the quarter went to Eric Peterson at the 3:57 mark, while the second TD pass and successful conversion attempt went to Doctor with 41 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Knights tallied their final score of the contest on the final play of the first half, as Brady Norman connected with Hudson on a 25-yard aerial strike to send the game into the halftime break with Henryetta trailing by 23 points, 36-13.

Victory Christian tallied three scores in the third quarter to put the finishing touches on the 58-13 outcome.

The first two scores for the visitors in the frame came on a 48-yard pass from Hamilton to Dyer at the 11:29 mark and a 26-yard strike from Hamilton to Doctor with 8:21 remaining.

The final score for the Conquerors came at the 7:13 mark of the third on a 56-yard interception return by Jackson McCrary. Hamilton’s successful conversion pass to Peterson concluded the visitors’ 58-point total.
