Henryetta Labor Day Celebration festivities underway

The Henryetta Labor Day Committee, in conjunction with the City of Henryetta and Henryetta Chamber of Commerce, is proud to present the Henryetta Labor Day Celebration, Eastern Oklahoma’s longest running Labor Day event. Local organizations and residents have worked tirelessly to produce this annual celebration of the area’s rich blue collar history, according to April Mason, who serves as Henryetta Labor Day Public Relations.

Five days of family friendly entertainment is underway, starting with the carnival last night that runs through Sept. 4.

On Saturday, First Family Federal Credit Union presents their 11th annual Smokin’ Hot Car and Bike Show, and the 30th annual Jim Shoulders Living Legends Rodeo kicks off their two- days of rip roaring action.

On Sunday, it’s all fun and games with the 7th annual Butch Sullivan Horseshoe tournament and the Henryetta Lions Club Jared Been Memorial Cornhole Tournament, which will be both Sunday and Monday.

Labor Day, Sept. 4, the festival kicks into overdrive starting with the Labor Day parade, down Main Street in Henryetta, featuring a marching band contest hosted by the Oklahoma Labor Unions, and a full day of events including the famous fish scramble, frog hopping contest and turtle races.

“Come hungry because the Okmulgee County Democrats host their annual BBQ Luncheon, and new this year – Henryetta Rotary Club hosts the first Homemade Ice Cream making competition,” Mason said. “After the sun goes down, stay for the field games, winner announcements for the marching band competition, parade float contest, and the photography contest presented by HYPE – Henryetta Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs. Then, we go out with a bang with live music from Rider’s Ford, and a fantastic fireworks display presented by Highway 62 Fireworks as our grand finale.”
