FIND THESE TREASURES

Jim Arnosky, son of a draftsman, was born Sept. 1, 1946, in New York, N.Y. He was raised in Pennsylvania and graduated from a Philadelphia high school before joining the U.S. Naval Reserves. He served in Maryland and Bremerhaven, Germany.

Jim educated himself in writing, art and natural sciences. He became interested in wildlife at a very early age and loved hunting for wild creatures in the woods near where he lived and drew pictures of the animals he found.

On Aug. 6, 1966, he married Deanna Eshelman. The couple has two daughters, Michelle and Amber. They live in a 200-yearold farmhouse in Northern Vermont.

At 19, his illustrations of nature were published in magazines. By 26, he illustrated his first children’s book. Jim’s first book that he wrote and illustrated was “I Was Born in a Tree and Raised by Bees,” published in 1988. He has written and illustrated some 132 books on subjects of nature and illustrated some 46 books written by other authors. His works have received many awards including Vermont’s creative guide to nature lore and his fishing books are in the International Game and Fishing Association Hall of Fame Library.

Jim and his wife travel many places to find creatures in their natural habitat. Deanna takes pictures while Jim draws them. He makes his books for his readers and they have fun reading them. His hobbies include col- lecting old fishing boats, old fishing tackle and playing his guitar.

We have his (B-2) “I See Animals Hiding” and (YA743) “Drawing From Nature.”

The Library calendar for September highlights the following themes: Library Card Signup Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Self-Care Awareness Month and Classical Music Month.

Congratulations to our Summer Reading Program Winners. Harper Tecumseh-Sands from the 1st-5th graders won a one-year subscription to National Geographic for Kids and Karsen Paschal from the 6th-8th graders won a one-year subscription to National Geographic.
