Pirates thump Okay to remain unbeaten
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

The Preston Pirate varsity fall baseball team improved to 7-0 on the season with a 12-1 victory this past Monday evening over the Okay Mustangs.

The run-rule win over the Mustangs took place at the high school baseball field at the Jim Waller Sports Complex in Preston.

The Pirates were scheduled to travel to Wellston for a showdown with the Wellston Tigers, but the road contest was canceled for an unknown reason.

The Preston squad was scheduled to host Cameron and Okay on Thursday and are scheduled to battle Ripley and Hydro-Eakly in a 3-team meeting Saturday at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

In Monday’s home showdown with Okay, the Pirates opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.

The visitors tallied their lone run in the top of the second to make it a 2-1 contest, while the Preston squad plated four runs in the home half of the second for a 6-1 advantage.

The Pirates put the finishing touches on the run-rule win with a 6-run bottom of third, then kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard in the top of the fourth to award the Preston squad the 12-1 victory.

The Pirates were led offensively by the trio of Kaden Dean (2 for 3, single, triple, 5 RBIs), Kellen Dean (2 for 3, 2 singles), and Bradley Winford (2 for 2, single, double, 2 RBIs) with two hits apiece.

The final two Preston base hits in the latest win came on an RBI single by Luke Hankins and an RBI triple by Easton Shaw.

Other Pirate baserunners against Okay were Shaw (walk), Winford (walk), Jayden Herring (2 walks), Braxton Kennedy (2 walks), Hunter McElhannon (walk, hit by pitch), and Waylon Cope (walk).

Kellen Dean got the start on the mound for Preston on Monday, allowing one run on no hits with three walks, four strikeouts, and one hit batter in two innings of work.

Noah Wilson entered out of the bullpen in the third, striking out one and walking two in his inning of relief, while Kennedy struck out one in his inning of relief work in the fourth.
