Editor’s Note: The following information was released in Oct. 2022 showing the funding and road projects that are planned for Okmulgee County.

- In Oct. 2022, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) adopted its first Eight-Year Construction Work Plan, with the Oklahoma Transportation Commission approved its newest update.

The Eight-Year Construction Work Plan for fiscal years 2023-30 contains $8.4 billion worth of critically needed transportation improvement projects designed to improve the safety and reliability of Oklahoma’s highway network. For the first time in the plan’s 20 years, each plan year averages more than $1 billion in projects programmed across the state.

For District 1, which includes the counties of Adair, Cherokee, Haskell, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okmulgee, Sequoyah and Wagoner, more than $740 million has been allocated for projects in the region. $55,462,503 of the district’s allocation has been earmarked for Okmulgee County, 7.5% of the region’s total.

FY2030 shows an allocation for the region of $102.45 million.

Among the planned projects allocated the most funding in Okmulgee County during the next eight years involves U.S. 75 and U.S. 75A.

Projects for U.S. 75 have been allocated more than $28 million, while U.S. 75A has been allocated $9 million. ODOT has allocated more than $21 million for projects in FY2030, the most for the county in the eightyear plan, while $9 million for construction of an interchange at U.S. 75 and Preston Road in FY2025 is the single most expensive project for the county.

Right of way and utilities work at the U.S. 75 and Preston Road intersection seven miles north of the U.S. 62E junction is currently underway. More than $3 million has been allocated for the project, which was let in February 2022.

No new projects are scheduled for FY2023.

ODOT has scheduled one project for each of fiscal years 2024, 2025 and 2026. Those projects include:

• $1,900,000 for right of way and utilities work in FY2024 on U.S. 75 from U.S. 62 north 1 mile to SH 56 junction

• $9,000,000 for interchange construction in FY2025 on U.S. 75 at Preston Road intersection 7 miles north of the U.S. 62 east junction. This project is scheduled to be let in November 2024.

• $2,287,503 for pavement rehabilitation in FY2026 on U.S. 75 from 3 miles south of U.S. 62E north 3 miles (northbound lanes) and from 1 mile south of U.S. 62E north 1 mile (southbound lanes) Projects slated for FY2027 include:

• $8,000,000 for road and bridge work on U.S. 75 from U.S. 62 north 1 mile to the SH 56 junction

• $1,500,000 for right of way and utilities work on U.S. 75A under the BNSF railroad 3.45 miles west and 4.5 miles northwest of the U.S. 75 junction • $575,000 for right of way and utilities work on SH 52 from 0.95 miles south of the SH 52/U.S. 62 junction north 1.3 miles The single project planned for FY2028 has been allocated $6 million for pavement rehabilitation on U.S. 75 from 1.5 miles north of the SH 56 loop extending north 5.5 miles (northbound lanes) - For FY2029, planned projects include: • $3,500,000 for right of way and utilities work on U.S. 266 from 1.7 miles east of U.S. 75 extending east 1.3 miles
