Adventures in BRENDALAND
This weekend, we celebrated my aunt’s 80th birthday. We drove her and Uncle Roy to Cyprus, Texas to Aunt Betty’s daughter’s home. Her daughter put together a wonderful gathering to celebrate the occasion.
She reserved and catered Tex-Mex, full banquet with an open bar. She created a wonderful slide show of Aunt Betty’s life. Family and lifetime friends came from all over to celebrate. There was a three tiered “80 years young” birthday cake. Aunt Betty was then adorned with a sparkling purple tiara and a birthday sash across her chest highlighting the birthday girl. I watched her face light up with lots of smiles and joy.
What a great gift. A gathering of love.
I think it was a perfect way to celebrate someone’s birth. Surrounded by loved ones and sharing memories. Everyone having the opportunity to let Aunt Betty know what she has brought to their lives and how much she is treasured. Believe me, she also spent a lot of time telling people how much they meant to her.
It’s quite an accomplishment to make it to 80 years old, while still having most of your health and all of your mind. She is still sharp as a tack.
I’ve always been fond of Betty. There is nothing wishy-washy about her. What you see is what you get. She is a straight shooter. She loves deeply, is honest and fiercely loyal and loving to her tribe - family and friends alike.
If I make it to 80 years old, I hope my sons throw me a party half as good. I hope all my loved ones will still be around and we can have the same kind of experience.
Happy Birthday Aunt Betty. You’re one hell of a good woman.
