Commissioners get county courthouse update
By JOSHUA JACKSON REPORTER,

EMPG grant approved

Jason Davey of the Trane Corporation updated the Okmulgee County Board of Commissioners on the latest courthouse renovations during Monday’s meeting.

“From our perspective, things are going swimmingly,” Davey said. “Crews are happy and we are making progress from the visible and the lighting that we’ve seen, as well as removing radiators, we’re really starting to find ourselves in a nice groove.”

These include the installation of a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system, which Commissioner David Walker asked more about–specifically the systems ability to control the temperature per room. Davey said that “the entire system has the versatility to function based off of the need of the space. Extremely efficient system, very easy to use, very easy to manage.

Other renovations a “more historic light fixture,” allowing for a consistent look throughout the facility and Davey also mentioned that PSO would be getting transformers and some other equipment set up over the next few weeks. “In reality, if everything goes as we see it today, this will be buttoned up before the New Year.”

Emergency Managment Director Jeff Moore told commissioners about the next step in the Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) process. He explained that this is a grant Okmulgee receives every year and just requires the commissioner’s signatures.

This grant pays fifty percent of the emergency management directors salary, with a maximum amount of $25,000. Director Moore said that this number is set by the state. The grant was approved.

See Friday’s edition for the director’s weekly report.

Brenda Miller, County Extension Director for OSU Extension, introduced Emily Hamilton as the newest agriculture educator for the county. “I appreciate you all letting me be here.”

Hamilton said, “I’m looking forward to getting to know everybody and being part of the community.”

Two separate bid invitations were approved. One was for a 2006 or older Pumper Truck for the Nuyaka Fire Department. The second was a rebid for a 2022 or newer truck for Grayson Fire Department. County Clerk Tonya Day explained the reason for the rebid was that when Grayson FD initially attempted to pick up the truck, they were told it was no longer available and offered another truck at a higher price.

The commissioners also voted to use Fire Board account funds to pay Bearcom.
