Multiple agencies looking for suspect Christopher Harris

– A search was underway early Thursday for a man who authorities say shot an Okmulgee police officer.
According to the OSBI, around 1:45 a.m., the Okmulgee Police Department received a call about a burglary in progress, and two officers responded to the area of E. 2nd Street and N. Central Avenue.
One of the officers went to the front of the residence, while the other went around to the rear of the home. That is where he was ambushed by the suspect.
“There was an exchange of gunfire, and the officer was shot,” the OSBI spokesperson said. “The individual then fled from the scene westbound on foot.”
According to an emergency alert issued earlyThursday, authorities are searching for 34-year-old Christopher Alfred Harris, who is a suspect in the shooting. Harris is believed to be armed with an AK-47.
The wounded officer was transported to St. Francis Hospital. The latest reports was he was in stable condition, alert and talking; and was released about 9 a.m. yesterday.
About 30 members of law enforcement were involved in the search for the subject, who was believed to be alone when the shooting took place.
Agencies involved included the Okmulgee Police Department, Muscogee Nation Lighthorse, District 25 Task Force, FBI, U.S. Marshal’s Office, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The OSBI was called in to investigate the use of force by the officer and against the officer.
The manhunt caused Okmulgee Schools to cancel summer school, meal distribution and other sports and activities at Harmon Stadium.
Residents in the neighborhood were asked to remain inside with their doors locked.
