Misdemeanor charges have been filed in Okmulgee County district court against two people involved in a brawl in February during a game at Morris High School.

On Feb. 24, the Morris police were called to the MHS gym at 2:55 p.m. in response to a large fight that broke out after the conclusion of the Star Spencer and Tulsa Central high schools game during the playoffs held at the gym.

Video captured during the incident shows several players, cheerleaders, fans and even parents fighting on the court after the basketball game ended. No one from the Morris community was involved in the melee.

An investigation led to misdemeanor charges being filed on May 5 against Nico Larod Knighten, 41, and his daughter Nica Lenae Knighten, 19, both of Tulsa.

According to court documents, the investigation and video revealed that one of the Star Spencer basketball players was thrown to the ground allegedly by Nico Knighten. When a coach for Star Spencer confronted him, he punched her in the face.

Video also showed a woman running up behind the coach and then hitting her and then pulling her hair. That person was identified as Nica Knighten.

Warrants for the Knightens arrest were issued on May 5, with the two surrendering to authorities and being booked into the Okmulgee County Jail.

Nica was charged in CM-2023-137 on one count of Assault and Battery on a School Employee/Student with a bond of $2,500. Nico was charged with one count of Assault and Battery on School Employee/ Student and Assault and Battery. His bond was set at $5,000. Both have since been released.
