The Road to the Women’s College World Series will continue this Thursday-Sunday with Super Regional action.
Two of the eight Super Regional Best-of-3 series hosts will be Norman and Stillwater.
The top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners will host 16th seed Clemson in the Norman Super Regional, beginning with Game 1 of the Best-of-3 series Friday at 1 p.m. Game 2 will take place Saturday at 12 p.m., while the ‘if necessary’ game scheduled for Sunday at a time to be determined.
The sixth-seeded Oklahoma State Cowgirls will host Oregon in the Stillwater Super Regional, beginning with Game 1 of the Best-of-3 series Thursday at 8 p.m. Game 2 will take place Friday at 5 p.m., while the ‘if necessary’ game scheduled for Saturday at a time to be determined.
The other six Super Regionals will be held in Tallahassee (Fla.), Durham (N.C.), Tuscaloosa (Ala.), Knoxville (Tenn.), Seattle (Wash.), and Salt Lake City (Utah).
Oklahoma punched its ticket to the Super Regionals with three run-rule wins in their regional tournament this past Friday- Sunday, defeating Hofstra 11-0 in five innings, Missouri 11-0 in six innings, and California 16-3 in five innings, respectively.
Oklahoma State also swept its regional tournament this past weekend, defeating UMBC 9-0 in six innings, Wichita State 6-0, and Nebraska 5-2, respectively. The win over Nebraska saw the Cowgirls rally from a 2-1 deficit with a 4-run top of seventh.
Last weekend’s regional tournament action saw three Top 15 seeds defeated, including second- seeded UCLA, who were defeated by Grand Canyon University (3-2) and Liberty University (2-1) in back-to-back contests at the Los Angeles Regional.
The other two Top 15 seeds to see their season end this past weekend were 10th-seeded LSU, who lost twice on Sunday to Louisiana University in the Baton Rouge Regional, and 11th-seeded Arkansas, who suffered a 14-4 loss to the University of Oregon in the Fayetteville Regional on Sunday.
The biggest comeback during last weekend’s regional tournament action came on Sunday when 7th-seeded Washington rallied from a 6-0 deficit in the top of the 7th to defeat McNeese State by a 7-6 margin in the championship game of the Seattle Regional.
The Women’s College World Series will take place June 1-9 at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
