Rikki Wolfe named new Wilson girls basketball coach

When the Wilson Lady Tigers step onto the basketball court in 2023-24, they will be led by a new head coach.

The new Lady Tiger sideline general for the 2023-24 season will be Rikki Wolfe.

Wolfe, a former Schulter basketball standout, will be taking over the reins of the WHS girls basketball program for Grant Proctor, who will remain as the boys head basketball coach at Wilson.

“I’m excited to take on this new opportunity with my sister at Wilson and to be back home,” Wolfe said, about being named the new Lady Tiger head coach.

Wolfe will be taking over a Lady Tiger squad that finished 16-10 and reached the regional consolation finals.

Wolfe is very familiar with the Wilson girls basketball team, having battled them twice during the 2023 postseason.

“I coached against them in the District Championship and the Regional Consolation Championship,” said Wolfe. “From what I have witnessed, they have a lot of talent and endless potential. I’m going to do my best for them.”

This will be Wolfe’s second head coaching job in the last 10 years, spending the previous nine seasons at Sasakwa High School as the head girls basketball coach.

In the last nine seasons, Wolfe comprised a 158-85 record at Sasakwa, including backto- back state tournament appearances in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

“Coaching at Sasakwa the past nine years has been a great journey,” Wolfe stated, about her time at Sasakwa. “I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to coach so many amazing athletes who made me better as a coach and as a person. My girls have been my world and they will all forever hold a special place in my heart.”

Wolfe has also guided the Lady Vikings to six area tournament appearances with each Sasakwa squad competing as far as the regional tournament in all nine seasons.

Wolfe’s best record at Sasakwa came in 201718 when the Lady Vikings finished 24-4 and were a Class B state semifinalist.

Besides 2017-18, Wolfe has also guided Sasakwa to 20-plus-win seasons two other times in her 9-year coaching career, finishing 23-6 in 2016-17 and 20-6 this past season.
