Lady Knights snare regional crown to earn trip to State

HHS net squad goes 4-for-4 in championship medals

The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity tennis team will be well represented at this weekend’s Class 4A state tennis championships in Oklahoma City.

The Lady Knights will send all six team members to the 2-day state tennis tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center after walking away from their home tennis courts with the Class 4A regional championship plaque.

The Henryetta net squad swept all of the gold medals at Monday’s regional tournament to finish with a team total of 45 points.

The Lady Knights’ closest competition to the regional crown was Byng, who finished as regional runner-up with 35 team points.

Regent Prep was third overall with 33 points, followed by Pauls Valley in fourth with 25.5 points and Wagoner in fifth with 25 points.

The remaining teams competing at Monday’s regional tournament in Henryetta were Harrah in sixth place with 18.5 points, Victory Christian seventh with 16.5 points, Oologah eighth with 13 points, Sperry ninth with 12.5 points, and Okmulgee 10th with nine points.

The first individual regional championship for Henryetta on Monday came in No. 1 Singles with Abbi Dodge scoring a straight-set (6-4, 6-3) win over Regent Prep’s Francesca Sollberger in the title match.

Dodge earned her spot in the championship match after defeating Sperry’s Isabel Edgar in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) in the quarterfinals and Wagoner’s Kieley Hollanday in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) in the semifinal round.

Andrea Wade was the next Lady Knight individual to receive a championship medal, defeating Regent Prep’s Gracie Lim in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) in the No. 2 Singles title match.

Wade began her journey towards her regional championship with a straight-set (6-1, 6-0) victory over Camryn Wiles of Sperry in her quarterfinal match. Wade punched her ticket to the No. 2 Singles finals by defeating Victory Christian’s Katie Elliott in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) in her semifinal match.

The duo of Katie Davis and Kellyn Lollis were awarded the regional championship medals in No. 1 Singles after earning a straight-set (6-1, 6-4) win over Byng’s Boatwright and Cole in the championship match.

Davis and Lollis received byes in the first two rounds before defeating Pauls Valley’s L. English and Hamilton in straight sets (61, 6-1) in the semifinals to punch their ticket to the regional title match.

The final regional championship medals handed out to Henryetta players were in No. 2 Doubles with the tandem of Casi Bailey and Emma Thompson escaping with a 3-set victory over Byng’s Dickinson and Moore. The Lady Knight duo lost the first set by a 6-4 margin, then rebounded by taking the last two sets 6-3 and 7-5, respectively, to take home the regional championship medals and complete the gold-medal sweep.

Bailey and Thompson began their journey towards the regional title match by defeating Victory Christian’s Studds and Farquhar in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) in the first round, then punched their ticket to the regional title match with a straight-set (6-2, 6-2) win over Regent Prep’s Mooberry and Helton in the semifinal round.

The Lady Knights will begin their state tournament participation this morning in Oklahoma City with action continuing on Saturday.
