The Preston Pirate varsity spring baseball team continued their winning ways Monday evening with a 15-0 win over the host Wilburton Diggers.
The run-rule victory puts the (Class 2A) 8thranked Pirates at 18-1 on the season and extends Preston’s winning streak to 15 games, which began March 21 with a 10-2 win over Holdenville.
The Pirates were scheduled to host the Okay Mustangs on Tuesday, but the home contest was canceled for an unknown reason.
The Preston diamond squad was scheduled to host Stroud on Thursday for a showdown with the Stroud Tigers and will be at home Saturday to battle Hulbert and Porter in a 3-team meeting, beginning at 12 p.m.
In Monday’s road win over Wilburton, the Pirates opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first for an early 1-0 advantage.
The Preston squad put the game out of reach in their half of the second, erupting for 10 runs in the frame for an 11-0 lead.
The Pirates added four runs in the top of the third to put the finishing touches on the 15-0, run-rule, win.
Kaden Dean went the distance on the mound for Preston to earn the pitching win. Dean struck out four and walked five while allowing just one base hit in three innings of work.
Kellen Dean was the top hitter for the Pirates on Monday, finishing 2 for 3 with a single, double, and 4 RBIs.
Kaden Dean (2 for 3, 2 singles, 2 RBIs) and Jayden Herring (2 for 2, 2 singles, 2 RBIs) also recorded multi-hit games for Preston at Wilburton with two hits apiece.
The other Pirate base hits in the shutout win came on a single by Luke Hankins, doubles by Cooper Ausbrooks and Preston Hale, an RBI single by Braxton Kennedy, and a 2-run double by Noah Wilson.
