OSU Institute of Technology’s 224th Commencement will be held Friday. The spring ceremony celebrates the accomplishments of nearly 300 workforce-ready students. The Oklahoma State System of Higher Education Chancellor Allison Garrett will serve as the keynote speaker.

Chancellor Allison Garrett is the chief executive officer for the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, a state system comprised of 25 state colleges and universities, 11 constituent agencies and one university center.

“College graduation is like the Super Bowl for higher education,” Garrett said. “It is a privilege to celebrate with students, their families and the faculty and staff who supported the graduates on their journey. I congratulate all of the graduates!”

Garrett is the first female to hold the title of chancellor and began her three-year term in November 2021.

This year’s student respondent will be Cambrey Jo Hull, a graduating student from OSUIT with an Associate in Applied Science in Applied Technology.

Hull comes from the small town of Roland, and is the owner and lead designer for her business, Crown C Leatherworks & Design. Hull uses her creative abilities to craft one-of-a-kind leather products. She is carrying on a family tradition that started with her grandfather.

While in high school, she was enrolled in concurrent college classes, captured the title of National Miss United States Agriculture, won a state championship in Technology and Fashion Design and graduated as valedictorian of her senior class in 2022.

“I am honored to be nominated to speak at graduation,” Hull said. “I understand the magnitude of this responsibility and look forward to representing the OSUIT student body.”

Through her title, she traveled to twenty- six states promoting American agriculture and connecting urban youth to the industry. She met with top agricultural leaders and promoted her platform, “Planting Seeds of Success with Disabled and At-Risk Children,” developed through her experiences derived from her bilateral hearing loss and audio processing disorder. Public speaking events allow Hull to inform individuals that despite their disabilities, they can still succeed in their desired careers.

She plans to continue as a student at OSUIT after graduation to pursue a Bachelor of Technology in Applied Technical Leadership. Hull aspires to own and operate an event center and mobile flower shop and use her leadership skills to grow future leaders.

The ceremony will be held at Covelle Hall on the south side of campus off 4th Street. Doors will open for visitors at 3:45 p.m. for the 5 p.m. ceremony. For more information on OSUIT’s commencement ceremonies, visit osuit.edu/commencement/.
