Lady Eagles go 4-for-4 in recent home action
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

The Morris Lady Eagle varsity slowpitch softball team went a perfect 4-for-4 at home earlier this week.

The four wins came in doubleheader sweeps of Okay and Okmulgee, including the last three by shutout.

The Lady Eagles began the week with a pair of wins over the Okay Lady Mustangs on Monday, winning by margins of 6-4 and 7-0, respectively, then took a county twinbill with the Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs Tuesday with wins of 5-0 and 9-0, respectively.

The Morris squad returned to action Thursday with a doubleheader meeting with the Beggs Lady Demons in Morris and will travel to Henryetta Monday for a county battle with their arch rivals, the Henryetta Lady Knights.

In Monday’s opening meeting with Okay, the visitors tallied their four runs in the top of the first.

The Lady Eagles cut the deficit in half, 4-2, with a pair of runs in the home half of the inning, then took over the lead, 6-4, with a 4-run bottom of third.

Neither team produced any runs in the next inning and onehalf of action to award the host Lady Eagles the narrow 6-4 decision.

The Morris offense was led by junior slugger Marti Yaerger, who went 2 for 2 with 5 RBIs. Yaerger began her multi-hit game with a 2-run home run in the first, then added a 3-run home run in the 4-run third.

The other Lady Eagle base hits in the narrow win came on singles by Maddie Moore, Dezmond Lewis, Briley Cagle, and Camara Casey and a double by Emma Duclos.

Kaydence Ausbrooks accounted for the sixth Morris run in the contest with an RBI groundout in the third.

In Monday’s nightcap, the Lady Eagles opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first, then added two runs in each of the second and third innings for a 7-run advantage.

The Lady Mustangs were held off the scoreboard in the next two innings to award the host Morris ladies the 7-0 victory.

The duo of Emma Duclos (2 for 2, 2 singles, RBI) and Fire Clark (2 for 2, single, double) led the Morris offensive attack with two hits apiece.

The other Lady Eagles base hits in Monday’s nightcap came on singles by Marti Yaerger and Camara Casey, a triple by Maddie Moore, an RBI single by Ally Guynes, a 2-run single by Dezmond Lewis, and a solo home run in the first by Jessica Wilson.

In Tuesday’s first county battle with Okmulgee, the Lady Eagles got the scoring started with a run in the bottom of the first. The Morris squad added two runs in each of the third and fourth innings for a 5-0 advantage.

The visitors were unable to produce any runs in their final three at-bats of regulation to award the host Morris Lady Eagles the shutout victory.

The top hitter for the Lady Eagles in Tuesday’s opening contest was Emma Duclos, who went 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and 2 RBIs.

The visiting Lady Bulldogs were unable to produce any runs in the top of the fifth to award the host Morris Lady Eagles the run-rule, shutout, win.

Marti Yaerger led the Lady Eagle offensive attack in Game 2 of Tuesday’s twinbill, going 2 for 3 with a triple, home run, and 2 RBIs. Yaerger’s roundtripper came on a solo blast in the third.
