Eagles outlast Depew for consolation title

The Preston Pirate varsity baseball team took home the team championship at the 2023 Beggs Under Armour Classic this past Saturday with a 14-4 win over the host Beggs Golden Demons.

The Morris Eagles were the third Okmulgee County diamond squad to compete at the 3-day event, taking home the consolation championship plaque with a 17-11 victory over the Depew Hornets on Saturday afternoon.

Holland Hall rallied to defeat Kellyville 10-9 to earn the third-place trophy at the annual Beggs baseball tournament.

The Pirates reached Saturday’s championship game with a 19-2, opening-round, win over the Holdenville Wolverines on Friday morning in Preston and blanking Holland Hall 6-0 in Friday’s semifinal action at Golden Demon Park in Beggs.

The Demons’ road to Saturday’s title contest began with a 13-3 win over the Checotah Wildcats on Friday morning and a 4-3 victory over Kellyville in 10 innings Friday night.

Morris began tournament play Thursday with an 8-1 loss to Holland Hall, then earned their first win of 2023 on Friday with a 14-1 thrashing of Checotah in the consolation semifinals.

The Beggs tournament was only able to complete two games on Thursday before heavy rainfall caused the remainder of the opening-round schedule to be pushed back to Friday. The first day of tournament action was postponed during the Preston-Holdenville contest. Below are the complete results from the 2023 Beggs Under Armour Classic.
