A man wanted on several outstanding county warrants is behind bars following a standoff in Henryetta.
Around 9:45 a.m. on March 8, Henryetta police made contact with Donald Lee Schanks, 49, on several outstanding Okmulgee County warrants.
According to the court documents, while at B Street and Jefferson, the officer asked Schanks for his identification, however Schanks fled from him, and grabbed at something under his shirt in his waistband.
The HPD officer chased the subject on foot to the 300 block of E. Jefferson, and entered the home. The affidavit stated Schanks allegedly stated he told the officer he was going to shoot and had a gun, while barricading himself inside.
The officer called for backup, and while waiting, Schanks stated he was going to let a person in the home leave. He still refused to obey commands to surrender.
A short time later, a female exited the home and stated there were at least four to five other people in the home, and the subject wasn’t allowing them to leave.
A special operations team was deployed and approximately three hours later, Schanks was arrested after officers forced their way into the home.
He was transported to the Okmulgee County Jail, where he is being held on complaints including Threatening Acts of Violence, Kidnapping, Failure to Comply with Lawful Order. Bond is set at $120,000. He is also being held on the warrants for stolen property and burglary in an earlier case in Okmulgee County.
Schanks is due in district court on Thursday at 1:15 p.m.
