Community supports special athletics

It was the perfect weather for the 2023 Okmulgee County Sharks Special Athletic Activities Association’s Polar Plunge and Buddy Walk on Saturday.

Thanks to the support of the Okmulgee Rotary Club, Miss Mary’s Market, Justice Fit and Neal’s Home Furnishings, lots of volunteers and participants, funds were raised to help the group’s Paralympic and Special Olympics athletes.

OCSAA provides yearround sports training and athletic competition in a variety of sports for children.

Though the temperature outside was nice and warm, the water was cold as ice was added to definitely make those who decided to take the plunge shiver.

Awards were presented for the Best Costume, Youngest Plunger, Oldest Plunger, Best Individual Fundraiser and Best Fundraising Team.

The Buddy Walk held during the event allowed the community to partner with the Special Olympic athletes and walk or run together.
