The Dewar varsity basketball program earned district tournament runner-up finishes last Saturday evening with double-digit losses to the Wetumka Chieftains and Lady Chieftains in Wetumka.

The Dewar cage squads earned spots in the Class A, Area II, District 3 championship games with wins over Weleetka last Friday in elimination contests.

The Lady Dragons kept their season alive with a thrilling 40-39 victory over the Weleetka Lady Outlaws, while the Dragons avoided a season-ending loss last Friday, defeating the Weleetka Outlaws by a 43-28 decision.

The Dewar squads will face a ‘must win’ situation Thursday in the consolation quarterfinals of the Class A, Area II, regional tournament at Vanoss High School, battling the Stonewall Longhorns and Lady Longhorns in elimination contests. The Lady Dragons will look to keep their season alive Thursday at 1:30 p.m., while the Dragons will follow at 3 p.m. with their ‘must win’ contest.

Wins over Stonewall will put the Dewar squads into Friday’s regional consolation semifinal round in Vanoss against the loser of Thursday’s winner’s bracket games at Southwest Covenant High School in Yukon (Girls: Strother and Okeene; Boys: Southwest Convenant and Drummond) at 1:30 and 3 p.m., respectively, while losses Thursday will bring the Dewar cage squads’ seasons to a close.
