Fundraiser to be held in downtown Okmulgee
The Okmulgee County Sharks Special Athletic Activities Association is teaming up with the Rotary Club and Neal’s Furniture for their upcoming fundraiser.
The OCS Shark Shiver or Polar Plunge and Buddy Walk 2023 will be held this year on the southeast corner of the square in downtown Okmulgee, according to Nancy McChesney.
Events kick off at 9:30 a.m. with registration and the plunge is at 11 a.m.
The event is used to help raise funds to benefit the group’s Paralympic and Special Olympics Athletes.
OCSAA provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of sports for children.
The water will definitely be cold, however there are several ways to help the Sharks.
First, those wishing to jump into the freezing water must raise at least $75 or more. Participants can jump individually or as a team.
Registration will begin on March 4 at 10:30 a.m. and money can be turned in on the day of the event.
There will be awards for the Best Costume, Youngest Plunger, Oldest Plunger, Best Individual Fundraiser and Best Fundraising Team.
For those not wanting to take the cold plunge can participate in the Buddy Walk.
The Buddy Walk allows the community to partner with the Special Olympic athletes and walk or run together. Registration and buddy assignments will be at 9:30 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. on the Square at Justice Fit.
Registration can be mailed to P.O. Box 173 Morris, OK 74445, turned in at Miss Mary’s Market, located on E. 8th Street, or scanned and emailed to ocsharks@yahoo.com.
