The Schulter varsity basketball program battled two tough opponents last weekend to close out their busy 3-game schedule.

The Okmulgee County school hosted Wanette last Thursday, then made the 63.5-mile trip to Bowlegs on Friday.

The Schulter squads earned a home sweep of Wanette, defeating the visitors by margins of 43-13 and 63-40, respectively, then came away with a split decision Friday at Bowlegs with the Lady Bulldogs earning their ninth win of the season in the opening contest, defeating the host Lady Bison by a 56-23 margin, while the Bulldogs fell to 10-7 on the year with a 38-35 loss to the host Bison in the nightcap.

Schulter was back in action Tuesday with a home meeting with its county rival, Wilson-Henryetta, and will close out this week’s schedule Friday in Preston against Davenport and Saturday in Henryetta against Dewar. This weekend’s contests are part of the Small School portion of the 2023 Muscogee Nation Invitational Tournament.

In last Thursday’s girls game against Wanette, the Lady Bulldogs took the opening period by a 14-2 margin, then edged the visiting Lady Tigers 9-5 in the second stanza for a 23-7 halftime advantage.

An 8-6 margin by Schulter extended the Lady Bulldogs’ lead to 31-13, then the host squad blanked their foes 12-0 in the final frame to walk off their home floor with the 43-13 decision.

The top scorer for Schulter in the home win was Payton Campbell with a game-high 12 points. Macee Henderson also reached double figures for the Lady Bulldogs last Thursday with 10 points.

Other Schulter scorers against Wanette were Addiemae Kanada with eight, Jenna Henderson six, Alyssa Evans three, and Alexis Hurt and Caidence Campbell two each.

In last Thursday’s boys contest, the host Bulldogs led 17-4 after one and 32-12 at halftime.

The Schulter gentlemen took the back-and-forth third quarter by a 19-14 margin, sending the game to the final frame with the host Bulldogs in front by 25 points, 51-26.

Wanette attempted to overcome the double-digit deficit in the final period, but managed just a 14-12 advantage to award the Schulter gentlemen the 6340 victory.

Bobby Calhoun had the hot hand offensively for the host Bulldogs, finishing with a team-best 24 points. Kenta Carder also reached double figures in the home win with 12 points.

Other Schulter scorers last Thursday were Kameron Vinyard with seven, Vincent Bess, Jordan Horne, and Quinton Nuckolls four apiece, Willie Corn and Isaiah Bauer three each, and Kris Thompson two.

In Friday’s girls game at Bowlegs, the visitors came out of the opening frame with a 17-4 margin, then outscored the host Lady Bison 15-8 in the second period to go into the intermission in front by double digits, 32-12.

The Schulter ladies edged their foes 16-10 in the third quarter for a 38-22 advantage, then edged the host squad 8-1 in the final stanza to complete the decisive 56-23 victory.

The Lady Bulldog offense was led by Caidence Campbell, who finished with a game-high 21 points. Addiemae Kanada also finished in double figures for the Schulter squad on Friday, putting up 15 points in the win.

Other Lady Bulldog players to tally points in the road contest were Payton Campbell with six, Jenna Henderson five, Macee Henderson four, Alexis Hurt three, and Alyssa Evans two.

In Friday’s boys road contest, the Bulldogs edged the host Bison 12-9 in the first eight minutes of action, then both teams put up eight points in the second quarter to keep Schulter’s lead at three, 20-17, at the halftime break.

Bowlegs doubled up the Schulter gentlemen 16-8 in the third period to put the host Bison in front by five, 33-28, with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

The Schulter squad held the Bison to five points in the final stanza, but were only able to tally seven points in the quarter to suffer the 38-35 setback.

The top scorer for the Bulldogs in the road loss was Bobby Calhoun with 17 points. Kameron Vinyard just missed double-digit scoring for Schulter on Friday with eight points.
