Community invited to participate in unique hobby
There is something special about a hobby that allows you to look to the skies with focus and concentration.
Just over fifty years ago, at the age of 10, Henryetta resident Wes Arnett first experienced flying a remote-controlled airplane, becoming instantly drawn to the hobby.
Throughout the years, he has enjoyed every moment of having flown various types of remote-controlled planes.
In 2017, Arnett and Haley Eyer came together and formed Henryetta R/C Aviators. They leased a 20-- acre field from the City of Henryetta located adjacent to East Central Oklahoma Family Health Center, Inc. on East Shurden Industrial Blvd.
A Henryetta R/C Aviators page on Facebook was created and they began taking memberships for others who enjoy the hobby as well.
“I want to share the fun of the hobby. Everyone can come out and watch at our field in Henryetta,” Arnett said.
The two-man team of Arnett and Eyer offer free lessons to anyone who has an interest in the hobby.
They encourage everyone and their families to visit the field and bring their remote-controlled cars, trucks, planes, model rockets or even kites.
“I want everyone to feel welcome,” Arnett said.
Over the past few years, people have traveled from all over the state to come and fly their models at Henryetta R/C Aviators field, he said. “There are so many exciting things we are planning for the field in the near future. We really want the Henryetta community to come enjoy the field,” Arnett said.
Among those plans include collaborating with area schools and students, providing them a chance to learn about the hobby, at no cost.
“If we can interact with youth and plant a seed,” Arnett said, “it will open their world to new possibilities and a new hobby to enjoy. We really want to get involved with the community and we’re so thankful for what we’ve been given.”
