The Lady Eagles began Tuesday’s home doubleheader with a 58-47 win over the visiting Eufaula Lady Ironheads, while the Eagles needed an extra four minutes to snap a 2-game losing streak in the nightcap, defeating the Eufaula Ironheads by a thrilling 64-61 decision in overtime.

The Morris cage squads will return to action Friday, traveling to Henryetta to battle their arch rivals, the Henryetta Knights and Lady Knights. Friday’s county battle in Henryetta will begin with girls action at 6 p.m. followed by boys action at approximately 7:30 p.m.

In Tuesday’s girls contest, the Lady Eagles doubled up the visitors 14-7 in the first period, then outscored the Lady Ironheads 22-12 in the second stanza for a 36-19 halftime lead.

Eufaula came out of the third quarter with a narrow 13-12 advantage to make it a 48-32 contest with eight minutes left in regulation.

The visitors tallied 15 points in the final frame in a comeback attempt, but the Morris ladies countered with 10 points in the stanza to walk off the floor at the Don Shoemake Fieldhouse on the winning end of a 58-47 outcome.

Skylar Phillips was tops for Morris in the double- digit win, finishing with 17 points. Jessica Wilson also reached double figures in the contest with a 10-point performance.

Other Lady Eagle scorers against Eufaula were Maddie Moore and Reagan Bowling with eight points apiece, Marti Yaerger seven, Kaleah Barnett four, and Firé Clark and Alexis Schell two each.

In the boys battle on Tuesday, the Eagles led 22-12 after one quarter of action.

Eufaula cut the Morris lead to one, 29-28, at halftime following a 16-7 advantage in the second period.

A 19-11 margin for the host Eagles in the third stanza pushed the Morris lead to nine, 48-39, heading into the final frame of regulation, where the visitors escaped with a 17-8 advantage to deadlock the score at 56-56.

In the 4-minute overtime period, the Eagles outscored their McIntosh County foes by an 8-5 margin to earn the 64-61 decision.

Tucker Kelsey had the hot hand offensively for the Morris gentlemen in the overtime win, finishing with a team-high 25 points. The duo of Ryan Benavidez and Jerrick Raines also found their way into double-digit scoring in the home victory with 12 points apiece.

Cody Smith was next in the scoring column for the Eagles with seven points, while Race Casey and Koen Burgess rounded out the Morris scoring with four points each.
