Lady Knights finish 8th at Okemah Tournament

The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity basketball team suffered three-straight losses last weekend at the Okemah Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity basketball team suffered three-straight losses last weekend at the Okemah Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Knights began their participation at the annual 3-day event with a 62-30 loss to the North Rock Creek Lady Cougars last Thursday afternoon.

The Henryetta ladies then fell into the seventh-place contest with a 6942 defeat to the Seminole Lady Chieftains last Friday in the consolation semifinals.

The Lady Knights ended their tournament participation this past Saturday with a 44-20 loss to the Newcastle Lady Racers in the seventh-place game.

The Henryetta cage squad returned to action Tuesday evening at home against the Vian Lady Wolverines.

In last Thursday’s opening-round battle with North Rock Creek, the Lady Knights fell into an early double- digit deficit, 26-2, after the first eight minutes of action. The Henryetta squad was edged 10-7 in the second stanza to trail by a 36-9 margin at halftime.

North Rock Creek took the low-scoring third quarter by a 6-5 margin for a 42-14 advantage with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

The Lady Knights tallied 16 points in the final period, but their foes countered with 20 points in the frame to hand the Henryetta ladies the 6230, opening-round, setback.

Henryetta was led in scoring by McKayla Greenhaw with a team-high 13 points. Other Lady Knight scorers in the opening-round battle were Kassidy Lee with six, Allana Lawrence, Sutv Harjo, and Serenity Rex three each, and Maray Cummings two.

In last Friday’s loser’s bracket game with Seminole, the Henryetta squad trailed 15-8 after the first period, then were edged 11-10 in the second quarter to go into the intermission down by eight, 26-18.

Seminole came out of the final two frames with advantages of 22-13 and 21-11, respectively, to hand the Lady Knights the 69-42 loss.

The duo of Kassidy Lee and McKayla Greenhaw were tops in the scoring column for Henryetta with 14 points apiece.

Allana Lawrence, Graci Lollis, and Maray Cummings were next offensively for the Lady Knights with four points each, while Serenity Rex rounded out the Henryetta scoring with two points.

In Saturday’s seventh-place contest, the Lady Knights were outscored 17-5 in the opening frame and 11-10 in the second stanza to trail 28-15 at halftime.

Newcastle came out of the third period with a 14-3 margin for a 42-18 advantage, heading into the final eight minutes of action.

Both teams tallied two points in the final stanza to put the Lady Knights on the short end of a 44-20 outcome.

McKayla Greenhaw was tops offensively for Henryetta in the loss with a team-best 10 points.

Other Lady Knight scorers against Newcastle were Allana Lawrence with four, Sutv Harjo three, Graci Lollis two, and Kassidy Lee one.
