The Lady Tigers suffered their first loss of the 2022-2023 campaign in the opening contest, falling by a 68-38 margin.
The Wilson gentlemen earned their second-straight narrow win to begin the season in the nightcap, holding off a fourth-period rally to defeat the visiting Eagles 58-50.
The Wilson squads will return home Friday, hosting the Paden Pirates and Lady Pirates. The Tigers and Lady Tigers will also be at home next week, hosting their annual home basketball tournament - the Wilson Tiger Classic, which will get started on Monday.
In Tuesday’s girls game, the vistors came out of the opening frame with a narrow 11-9 advantage, then outscored the host Lady Tigers 13-8 in the second stanza for a 24-17 halftime lead.
The Wilson offense fizzled in the third quarter with Summit Christian outscoring the Lady Tigers 21-5 in the frame to extend the deficit to 23 points, 45--22, heading into the final eight minutes of regulation.
The Wilson ladies attempted to overcome the huge deficit in the final period, but were edged 2316 in the stanza to suffer their first loss of the season, 68-38.
Brooklyn Weeks was the top scorer for the Lady Tigers on Tuesday, finishing with a teamhigh 23 points.
Other Wilson scorers in the home contest were Gracie Bear with six, Kaozong Yang five, and Janelle Proctor and Jaslene Proctor two each.
In the boys contest on Tuesday, the Tigers took the first period by a 14-9 margin. Summit Christian outscored the host Wilson squad 13-6 in the second quarter for a narrow 22-20 advantage at the intermission.
The difference in the outcome of the game came in the third stanza, as the Wilson offense torched the nets for 22 points, while the Tiger ‘D’ held the visitors to just seven points in the frame, sending the game to the final period with the host Tigers leading by 13 points, 42-29.
Summit Christian put up 21 points in the final eight minutes of regulation in a comeback attempt, but the rally was thwarted, however, as Wilson countered with 16 points in the final period to walk off its home court with the 58-50 decision.
Three Tiger players reached double figures in the narrow win with Charles Shelburn leading the way with a game-high 17 points. Keshon Shelburn was next offensively for Wilson with 16, while Peyton Proctor rounded out the double-digit scorers for the host Tigers with an 11-point performance.
The remainder of the Wilson scoring came on six points by Ryder Herring, five by Andrew Wilson, and three by Christian McKinley.
