Candidates across 10 Okmulgee County school districts will file their Declarations of Candidacy for Board of Education offices starting Monday, Dec. 5 at 8 a.m., when the official filing period opens.
All those filing for the seats will have until Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. to file the appropriate forms.
“Declaration of Candidacy forms must be completed and submitted by 5 p.m. on Dec. 8, when the filing period ends,” Ashley Carnes, Okmulgee County Election Board Secretary, announced this week. “Contests of Candidacy must be filed no later than Friday, Dec. 9 and may only be filed by another candidate for that office. Contests against unopposed candi- dates may be filed by contacting the Okmulgee County Election Board office.”
In the event that more than two candidates file for the same office, they will appear on the ballot during the Primary Election set for Tuesday, Feb. 14.
“If one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes,” Carnes added, “that candidate will be named the elected official.”
