Eric A. Kimmel, American author of children and young adult books, was born Oct. 30, 1946 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Kimmel attended junior high and high school in Brooklyn and graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Penn. in 1967 with a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature.
While working on his Master’s degree at New York University, he taught at an elementary school in Manhattan.
He then went to the Virgin Islands to work as a teacher and librarian.
Following, he returned to the states and began teaching college courses for 20 years before retiring to dedicate his time to becoming a full-time writer, something he knew he wanted to do since he was in kindergarten.
His first book, “The Tartar’s Sword,” was published in 1974.
He traveled to several different countries as he likes to share stories from those countries and their cultures.
With more than 150 books published, Kimmel has been called “Oregon’s Teller of Tales.”
He and his wife, Doris, live in Portland, Ore. with their dog, Tasha and two cats, Inky and Junior. They have one daughter.
Kimmel's hobbies are riding horses and practicing his banjo.
