Lady Knights drop district battle with Haskell

The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity fastpitch softball team suffered a 10-6 loss last Thursday evening to the Haskell Lady Haymakers.

The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity fastpitch softball team suffered a 10-6 loss last Thursday evening to the Haskell Lady Haymakers.

The 4-point setback came in District 3A-7 action and was the final (of two) district meetings between the two diamond squads.

The loss drops the Lady Knights to 6-4 in district play and third overall in the 3A-7 standings behind Haskell (10-0) and Eufaula (9-1), respectively.

The Henryetta squad returned to action Monday and Tuesday with district meetings with their Okmulgee County rivals, the Beggs Lady Demons.

Two wins over the Lady Demons will award the Lady Knights the No. 3 spot in 3A-7 ahead of arch rival Morris, who sits in fourth in the district standings at 5-5.

The Henryetta squad is scheduled to travel to Dale Thursday for a showdown with the Dale Lady Pirates and close out their regular-season schedule next Tuesday (Sept. 27) at home against the Bristow Lady Pirates.

In last Thursday’s district battle in Haskell, the host Lady Haymakers opened the scoring with six runs in the home half of the first.

The Lady Knights broke up the shutout bid with a run in the top of the third, while Haskell regained its 6-run advantage - 7-1 - with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Henryetta plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and added a run in its half of the fifth to cut the deficit to three, 7-4, after four and one-half innings of action.

Haskell pushed across three insurance runs in the last of the fifth, while the visiting Lady Knights managed just two runs in the top of the sixth to fall short by a 10-6 margin.

Despite the loss, the Lady Knights outhit the host Lady Haymakers 10-8 in the contest.

The top offensive performers for Henryetta last Thursday were Brooklyn Baughman (2 for 4, 2 singles, RBI) and Winter Beaver (2 for 4, 2 singles) with two hits each.

The other Henryetta base hits against Haskell came on singles by Skylar Morris and Sutv Harjo, a double by Serenity Rex, an RBI single by Kinley Miller, and solo home runs by Shelby Kilhoffer and Ailanee Hicks. Kilhoffer’s roundtripper came in the third, while Hicks opened the fourth with her four-bagger.

Other Lady Knight baserunners in last Thursday’s district battle were Kilhoffer (walk, error), Miller (error), and McKayla Greenhaw (fielder’s choice). Greenhaw accounted for one of the two Henryetta runs in the sixth with an RBI sacrifice fly.
