Ben C. Eastin, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, returned last night from near Rolla, Mo., where he went to spend his well-earned vacation. Mr. Eastin expected to remain longer than he did, but owing to conditions on the Frisco road he decided he had better get home.
After conferring with the Frisco agent at the small town where he had to take a local train to Springfield to reach the main line of the Frisco, he was informed that the train out of St. Louis which he would catch at Springfield, for Henryetta, was leaving out three hours late, after a crew had been finally obtained to move it.
Mr. Eastin said there is posted on the depot station buildings of the Frisco 2-sheet posters telling the men now out on strike that when they return to work they will come back as new men, all rights of seniority having been wiped out. From this it appears the companies are standing firm on the seniority question which is said at Washington and Chicago now to be the only stumbling block in the way of a settlement.
While trying to rest and enjoy a real vacation, Mr. Eastin could not be quiet but was working all the time for the interests of Henryetta and has something on the way which he has promised to tell about tomorrow in an interview, which he did not have time to give out today.
Mr. Eastin is looking much better than when he left and with the recuperation gained from his outing is ready to jump into the accumulated work of the Chamber of Commerce with his usual energy.
