Ann M. Martin, American children’s fiction author, was born Aug. 12, 1955 in Princeton, N.J.
This week, Henryetta Public Library features four Junior Fiction and one Young Adult Fiction books by author Ann M. Martin.
Books include “Claudia and the Bad Joke,” “Dawn and the Big Sleepover,” “Jessie and the Awful Secret,” “Kristy and the Baby Parade” and “Belle Teal.”

Her mother was a preschool teacher and her father a cartoonist. She has a younger sister, Jane.
Before she was old enough to write, she told her mother stories, who would write them down.
In elementary school, Martin found she liked to write as young as second grade.
She graduated high school in 1973 and planned to go to Smith College to study Education because she loved working with children with disabilities.
After college graduation, Martin taught fourth and fifth grade students with dyslexia and autism in Connecticut.
After a year of teaching, she went into publishing work and eventually became a fulltime
Her first book, “Bummer Summer” was published in 1983.
In 1985, Martin began writing her famous Baby-Sitters Club Series which is for fourth through sixth graders and ages nine to 12.
She resides in upstate New York with her dog and three cats. Her hobbies include reading, sewing and needlework. She loves making clothes for children.
