Music call backs will follow auditions.
In addition one middle school male student will be considered for the role of Pugsley and should attend the auditions and be familiar with the song, “What If.”
Dance Call and Callbacks will be on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. Students should wear clothing they will be comfortable moving around in.
The call list will be posted on Thursday, Aug. 18 and rehearsals begin Monday, Sept. 19.
Roles open include the following:
• Gomez Addams – The father of the Addams family. A suave, yet comical man who adores his wife and children and takes immense pride in being an Addams. He is struggling with having to keep his daughter’s secret from his wife. He has great comedic timing and is a strong dancer.
• Morticia Addams – The real “head” of the Addams family and believes in their strong family traditions. She is concerned her husband is hiding something and will use all her wiles and tactics to lure his secret out. She is mysterious, glamorous, confident, witty and has a fear of growing old. She is a strong dancer and has a natural dry comedic timing.
• Fester Addams – The androgynous brother of Gomez Addams. Uncle Fester serves as the musical’s narrator and breaks the fourth wall constantly. He is one of the few members of the family that can talk to and see the ancestors. He is larger than life, energetic and joyous. He is in love with the moon and has great comedic timing. Playing the ukulele is a plus.
• Wednesday Addams – The gothic oldest child of Gomez and Morticia. Wednesday has her father’s heart and her mother’s sensibility and wit. She is lovesick for Lucas and is trying to balance her “strange” but passionate family and the “normal” but cold Beinekes. She is compassionate, stubborn, strong-willed and has a good sense of sarcasm.
• Pugsley Addams – The energetic monster of a boy and youngest of Gomez and Morticia. He is the danger-seeking, charming, funny and annoying little brother. He loves being tortured by his sister but is afraid he’s going to lose her to her new boyfriend. Pugsley is sweet but a dedicated troublemaker. This role is open to both high school and middle school students.
• Grandma – The 102-year-old feisty, kooky elder of the family. She might look sweet, but don’t mess with her. She always has a trick up her sleeve and often schemes with Pugsley, offering him help and advice. She is wise, wacky and sometimes a bit crass. Has great comedic timing and physicality.
• Lurch – The butler to the Addams family. He is extremely tall and though he is a man of few words, he knows all the family secrets. He mostly communicates in grunts and moans. Has great comedic timing and physicality.
• Malcolm Beineke – The uptight father of Lucas and cold-shouldered husband to Alice. A typical stuffy suburban father that’s cynical of life. Always looking out for his family and pretends to be better than others. He used to listen to grunge rock, but he has lost that side of himself. Very into the stock market and is very wealthy.
• Alice Beineke – The mother of Lucas and devoted wife to Malcolm. A typical suburban mom with typical suburban mom problems. She is quirky and is prone to speaking in rhyme when upset. She used to have a wild side and likes to be perceived as perfect. Great comedic timing.
• Lucas Beineke – The hopeless romantic son of Malcolm and Alice. He has fallen head-over-heels for Wednesday. He is optimistic, charming and the epitome of the American boy, with a goofy dorky side. He writes poetry and appears to be “normal,” but harbors an unexpected crazy and dark side.
• Ensemble – The descendants of the Addams family lineage from various eras and locales. They help tell the story, offer advice and interact with characters throughout the play.
