A new mapping program was discussed during the regular meeting of the Okmulgee County Board of Commissioners Monday.
Sheriff Eddy Rice informed the commissioners that the matter was sup posed to go to the Budget Board due to the fact the program, called DataScout, would benefit most county departments and agencies, with each sharing the cost.
“It is a very good program that would be utilized by almost every entity,” Rice said, “maybe not the court clerk.”
“Every county employee would have access to it, not necessarily in the same way that our offices would,” County Assessor Ed Johnson said. “We think it is a very good program.”
Assistant District Attorney Carmen Rainbolt added that he has used the mapping program for quite some time.
DataScout gives detailed information about the property boundaries, square footage of homes, buildings, owners, deed transfers, property taxes, etc.
Johnson added that with the current mapping system in use, the property lines may be off by as much as 40 feet. The company is looking into the cost of remapping the whole county to ensure all property lines are correct.
Sheriff Rice added that information would help in court litigation and search warrants.
The program would also aid in determining how much material would be needed to resurface the roads.
The initial cost to install and train on the program would be higher the first year, but would drop in subsequent years.
The commissioners tabled action on the matter to allow it to come before the Budget Board before making any decision.
