For the first time in more than a decade, the city of Tulsa will have an indoor football team.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Andy Scurto, owner of the Tulsa Oilers hockey team, Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum, and Indoor Football League commissioner Todd Tryon, it was announced that Tulsa will become the 15th current franchise of the IFL, beginning play in April of 2023.
“I am thrilled to be bringing an IFL team to Tulsa and the BOK Center,” said Andy Scurto. “This addition will continue the commitment from myself and the Tulsa Oilers to bring great quality entertainment to the Tulsa area, and this will allow us to stay engaged with our incredible fan base year round. Indoor Football is fast paced and full of action and I know our fans will love the game.”
In 2000, the Tulsa Talons arena football team was formed and remained in Tulsa until 2011 when the franchise moved to San Antonio before being disbanded in 2015.
Scurto and the Tulsa Oilers are asking fans for help in selecting the name of the IFL franchise, which will play each of its eight home games next year at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Fans can make their selections for the team name at tulsaindoorfootball.com.
Season tickets are currently on sale with current Tulsa Oilers season ticket holders having access to special prices and packages. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Tulsa Oilers Ticket Office at 918-632-7825.
The Tulsa team will join the current 14 IFL teams: Frisco Fighters, Massachusetts Pirates, Quad City Steamwheelers, Iowa Barnstormers, Sioux Falls Storm, Green Bay Blizzard, Bismarck Bucks, Arizona Rattlers, Northern Arizona Wranglers, Tucson Sugar Skulls, Duke City Gladiators, Vegas Knight Hawks, San Diego Strike Force, and Bay Area Panthers.
The IFL season concludes with the Dollar Loan Center IFL National Championship at the Dollar Loan Center in Las Vegas, pitting the champions of the Eastern and Western conferences.
