Some countians to receive new voter ID cards

Mandatory redistricting has caused many districts and precinct boundaries to change.

Mandatory redistricting has caused many districts and precinct boundaries to change.

As a result, some voters will be assigned to new polling places or in a new district or both, Ashley Carnes, Okmulgee County Election Board Secretary recently announced.

The precinct boundary lines must be evaluated every ten years following the redistricting of congressional, legislative and county commissioner districts.

Redistricting occurs following the federal census to ensure that the population in the various districts is equal.

District lines that changed for Okmulgee County are House Representative 24 and County Commissioners 1, 2 and 3.

Carnes said 6,728 voters were affected by the redistricting.

All voters affected by the redistricting will receive a NEW Voter ID card before the June 28 Primary Election.

The last bundle of I.D. cards was mailed on May 26.

“We are seeing a lot of Voter ID cards returning to the County Election Board office by the Post Office due to voters no longer residing at the address. Voters are not updating their voter information," Carnes said.

If you have moved, please call the County Election Board to check your voter information or visit the Oklahoma State Election Board website at elections.ok.gov and click the OK Voter

Portal. Voters can make address and party changes within the same county using the OK Voter Portal.

All changes must be submitted online by midnight on June 3, 2022.

Voters who have moved to another county or have a name change can use the OK Voter Portal but be sure to print, sign and mail the application to your County Election Board to complete the process.

All mail applications must be postmarked by June 3, 2022.

All party changes will be on hold.

Changing party affiliation is not allowed from April 1 through August 31. (See 26 O.S. § 4-119.)

All requests to change party affiliation received or postmarked after March 31 will be processed after Aug. 31.

Voters with questions should contact the Okmulgee County Election Board at 918- 756-2635 or OkmulgeeCounty@elec tions.ok.gov.

The Okmulgee County Election Board is located at 314 W. 7th Street in Room 102 of the Okmulgee County Courthouse.

Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
