The Henryetta Lady Knight slowpitch softball team began their bid for back-to-back state tournament appearances with a sweep of the Meeker Lady Bulldogs last Thursday in their Class 4A district tournament.

The Henryetta Lady Knight slowpitch softball team began their bid for back-to-back state tournament appearances with a sweep of the Meeker Lady Bulldogs last Thursday in their Class 4A district tournament.

The third-ranked Lady Knights punched their ticket to this Thursday’s regional tournament following a pair of run-rule wins last Thursday on their home field.

The first double-digit win over Meeker came by an 11-0 margin, while the Henryetta diamond squad completed their district tournament sweep with an 11-1 victory in Game 2 of the Best-of-3 series.

The Lady Knights will be joined at this Thursday’s Class 4A regional tournament in Henryetta by Wyandotte, Prague, and Haskell. Henryetta and Wyandotte will open the 4-team tournament at 1 p.m., followed by Prague and Haskell doing battle at 2:15 p.m. The two opening-round winners will square off for the regional championship Thursday at 3:30 p.m. while the first-round losers will meet Thursday at 4:45 p.m. in an elimination game. The regional finals loser and the consolation semifinal winner will close out Thursday’s tournament action at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to next week’s state tournament.

In last Thursday’s opening game against Meeker, the Lady Knights opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first then added three runs in the second for a 7-0 advantage.

The Henryetta ladies put the finishing touches on their double-digit, run-rule, win with a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to earn the 11-0 decision.

Avery Miller led the Lady Knight offense with a 3-for-4, 5-RBI, performance. Miller’s three hits came on a single in the first, a 3-run home run in the second, and a 2-run home run in the sixth. Miller’s second home run of the contest ended the game on the run rule with two outs in the frame.

Kasedi Gobin was next offensively for Henryetta, going 2 for 4 with a pair of singles.

The other base hits for the Lady Knights in the shutout win came on a single by Kassidy Lee, a double by McKayla Greenhaw, an RBI single by Shelby Kilhoffer, and an RBI double by Brookyn Baughman.

Other baserunners for Henryetta in the opening contest were Gobin (error), Kilhoffer (walk), Baughman (walk), Greenhaw (error), Katelyn Dwiggins (2 walks, error, fielder’s choice), Kinley Miller (error), and Shannon Corkerin (walk).

In last Thursday’s second tournament contest, the lone run for Meeker came in the third on a solo home run.

The Lady Knights scored in every inning, beginning with three in the first. The Henryetta offense added two in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth for the 11-1 victory.
