Pirates fall at home to Haskell

The Preston Pirate varsity baseball team suffered their first loss of the 2022 campaign Tuesday evening at the Jim Waller Sports Complex in Preston.

The Preston Pirate varsity baseball team suffered their first loss of the 2022 campaign Tuesday evening at the Jim Waller Sports Complex in Preston.

The first setback of 2022 came against the visiting Haskell Haymakers by a 3-2 margin.

The difference in the narrow defeat came in the top of the third inning on a 3-run home run by Haskell’s Lane Mann.

The Pirates outhit the visitors 5-2 in the contest, but was only able to manage two runs in the first three innings of the home loss. After the third inning, the remaining four innings became a pitcher’s duel between the two diamond squads.

The narrow loss puts the Preston squad at 5-1 on the year, heading into Thursday’s home games between Pocola and Okmulgee. The Pirates will also be in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. with a road trip to Pocola. In Tuesday’s loss to Haskell, the Pi

In Tuesday’s loss to Haskell, the Pirates opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first.

After a scoreless second, Haskell took over the lead, 3-1, in the top of the third on Mann’s 3-run home run.

The Preston squad plated a run in the home half of the third to cut the deficit to one, 3-2, after three innings of action.

The Pirates were unable to produce any runs in their final four at-bats in the contest to come up on the short end of a 3-2 outcome.

Noah Wilson was saddled with the pitching loss for Preston, allowing three runs on one hit, striking out seven, walking eight, and hitting two in six innings of work. Jayden Herring took over in the

The other four base hits for the Pirates against Haskell came on singles by Herring, Lance Porter, Easton Shaw, and Braxton Kennedy.

Other baserunners in the loss were Ausbrooks (error), Kennedy (fielder’s choice), Luke Hankins (walk, error), and Dawson Sumner (walk).
