Special days on the library calendar for the week are March 20, the first day of Spring and World Storytelling Day and March 21, World Poetry Day.
AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY:
Sarah Weeks, American author of children’s books, was born March 18, 1955 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
She had an older brother and a sister.
As a child, she loved books with one of her favorites being “Charlotte’s Web.”
Her father was an English professor who loved telling stories.
Weeks' mother saw that she had a talent for writing.
She loved playing music, writing and telling her mother stories. Her mother would write the stories down for her.
Weeks studied Music and Writing Composition at Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass.
She moved to New York City after gradua tion and held several different jobs including baking bread, answering phones and modeling before beginning to write children’s books.
Weeks has written more than 60 books for children. Her works have been translated into several different languages and sold over three million copies.
She is best known for her book, “So B It,” which was made into a full-length feature film on Oct. 6, 2017.
She makes her home in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York with her husband Jim who is a high school History teacher. They have two grown sons, Gabriel and Nathaniel and a granddaughter.
Weeks enjoys visiting schools around the country, both in person and virtually talking about her books.
She teaches writing workshops for adults and children.
In her spare time, she enjoys baking pies, gardening and hanging out with friends and family.
