Basketball playoff assignments released for Classes A-B

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association recently announced the playoff assignments for varsity basketball teams in Classes 2A and 3A.

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association recently announced the playoff assignments for varsity basketball teams in Classes 2A and 3A.

Both classifications’ playoff assignments will feature four area brackets with eight, 2-team, district pairings.

Teams competing in Districts 1, 2, 5, and 6 will take the court this Saturday, while teams competing in Districts 3, 4, 7, and 8 will step on the hardwood this Friday.

No matter the outcome of this weekend’s district tournaments, both teams will advance to next week’s regional tournament with the runner-up finishers competing in the consolation side of the bracket Thursday afternoon (Girls at 1:30 p.m.; Boys at 3 p.m.), while the district champions will compete in the winner’s side of the bracket Thursday evening (Girls at 6:30 p.m.; Boys at 8 p.m.).

Each regional tournament will feature a sub-site and a main site.

The sub-sites will be used on the first day of the regional tournament (February 24), while the main sites will be used all three days of the regional tournament (February 24-26). Teams in Districts 1 and 4 and Districts 5 and 8 will compete against one another in their respective regional tournament at a predetermined subsite, while the teams in Districts 2 and 3 and Districts 6 and 7 will compete against one another in their respective regional tournament at the predetermined main site.

For a second-consecutive week, the Mvskoke Dome in Okmulgee will serve as a main site for a regional tournament. This week, the Muscogee Nation gym, which is located at the Claude Cox Omniplex, is serving as the main site for a Class B regional tournament and will serve next week as the main site for the Class 2A, Area II, regional tournament that will feature the Preston Pirates and Lady Pirates.

The Preston cage squads will kick off postseason play this Friday, hosting the Chouteau-Mazie Wildcats and Lady Wildcats in the Class 2A, Area II, District 7 tournament.

Historic Brock Memorial Gymnasium, on the campus of Okmulgee High School, will also serve as a main site for a Class 2A regional tournament next week. Teams from Area III, Districts 1-4, will converge at the area gymnasium to determine which four teams will advance to the area tournament in Dale on March 3 and Seminole on March 4 and 5. Teams in Districts 1 and 4 will kick off regional tournament action at Howe High School next Thursday before the two consolation winners and the winner’s bracket teams continue their regional tournament in Okmulgee.

Two other Okmulgee County gymasiums - Morris and Beggs - will serve as regional tournament sub-sites next Thursday, while another - Henryetta - will serve as a regional tournament main site next Thursday-Saturday.

Below are district tournament pairings for Classes 2A and 3A involving Okmulgee County varsity basketball teams.
