The host Beggs squads took the first scheduled meeting January 25 in Okmulgee, then completed the season series sweep with Monday’s home wins.
The Lady Demons also earned a 54-21 win over the Lady Bulldogs January 20 in a first-round meeting at the 2022 Muscogee Nation Okmulgee County Basketball Tournament.
On Monday, the Demons overcame a 7-point halftime deficit to defeat the visiting Bulldogs by a 53-48 margin in the opening contest, while the Lady Demons capped off the home sweep in the nightcap with a 64-43 decision over the Lady Bulldogs.
Both county cage squads were back in action on Tuesday with Okmulgee hosting McAlester in its regular-season finale and Beggs traveling to Kellyville.
The Beggs squads will close out their regular-season schedule with back-to-back home games against county foes, hosting arch rival Preston on Friday and county rival Morris next Tuesday.
In Monday’s girls game at Beggs, the Lady Demons came out of the opening frame with a 21-8 advantage then took the second stanza 18-10 for a 39-18 lead at the halftime break.
The second half saw both teams tally 25 points to award the Beggs ladies the 64-43 victory.
Skylar Phillips led all scorers with a game-high 24 points. Heiress Hicks also found her way into double-digit scoring in the county battle, finishing with 14 points. Jasey Pruitt was next for the victorious Lady Demons with eight, followed by Payton Crook with seven, Bleu Hall six, Alyssa Antwine three, and Hallee Sumner two.
Okmulgee was led in scoring by Tori James with a team-best 22 points. Mariya Tecumseh also reached double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points. Other Okmulgee scorers in the county showdown were Sieriah Husman with seven, Kalacee Rangel two, and Dalazia Hammon one.
In Monday’s boys contest, the visiting Bulldogs led 11-8 after one and 27-20 at halftime. The Demons cut the deficit to one, 35-34, with a 14-8 advantage in the third period, then outscored their county foes 19-13 in the final frame to come out on the top end of a 53-48 outcome.
Ayden Hamilton led a trio of double-digit scorers for the victorious Demons with a game-high 12 points. Caleb Parker and Kaden Stanton were next offensively for Beggs with 10 points each.
Other Demon scorers against Okmulgee on Tuesday were Jarren Cargill with nine, Kyron Grayson eight, and Red Martel and Lucas Roberson two each.
The leading scorer for the Bulldogs was Laurence Green with 11, followed by Keith Talton with 10. D’Mari Harp was next for Okmulgee with seven, followed by Darin Miles, Tre Swan, and Topley Powell with five each, Allen Thierry and Darius Reason two apiece, and Braeden Williams one.
