Basketball playoff assignments released for Classes A-B

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association recently the playoff assignments for varsity basketball teams in Classes A and B.

Both classifications’ playoff assignments will feature four area brackets with eight district pairings. Some of the district tournament brackets will feature three schools, while the other district tournament brackets will feature four schools.

A 3-team district bracket means one team will automatically punch their ticket to the district championship game February 12 and the regional tournament the following week, while the other two teams will battle in an elimination game February 11 to keep their season alive with the winner advancing to the district title game and a spot in the following week’s regional tournament. A fourteam district bracket means two teams will battle in one elimination game February 10, while the other two teams will meet in the other elimination game February 11 with the two winners advancing to the district championship game February 12. The two teams advancing to the district title contest will also earn a spot in the following week’s regional tournament.

Each regional tournament will feature a sub-site and a main site.

The sub-sites will be used on the first day of the regional tournament (February 17), while the main sites will be used all three days of the regional tournament (February 17-19). Teams that reach the district championship game in Districts 1 and 4 and Districts 5 and 8 will compete against one another in their respective regional tournament at a predetermined sub-site, while the teams in Districts 2 and 3 and Districts 6 and 7 will compete against one another in their respective regional tournament at the predetermined main site.

Three Okmulgee County schools will be amongst the district tournament field in Classes A and B.

The Dewar Dragons and Lady Dragons will battle for a chance to reach the Class A state tournament during the postseason. The Dewar cage squads will be part of Area II in Class A and will travel to Ripley to battle Ripley and Olive for the District 4 championships.

The other two county schools will be participating in a Class B district tournament at the same site.

The Wilson Tigers and Lady Tigers will serve as hosts for the Class B, Area II, District 7 tournament. The host Wilson cagers will be joined at the district tournament by their county rivals, the Schulter Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs, as well as Earlsboro and Mason, in a 4-team district tournament.

The remaining teams in District 7, as well as the district champions and runner-ups in District 6, will travel to the Mvskoke Dome in Okmulgee February 17 to begin competition in regional tournament action. The Muscogee Nation gymnasium will serve as the main site for the regional tourament for Districts 5-8 with the remaining teams from Districts 5 and 8 coming to Okmulgee for regional tournament action February 18 and 19. (The district champions and runner-ups from Districts 5 and 8 will begin regional tournament play at a sub-site in Glencoe.)
